Real Life is not Like LEGO
Have you ever wondered why the LEGO Group makes $10 billion a year selling pieces of plastic? Or why adults, buying LEGO sets for themselves, account for over 25% of those sales?
I may be biased, but I think it’s because they’re awesome! You get every part you need and a step-by-step blueprint laid out in front of you, showing you what to do next. You go from a pile of parts to an incredible final result. Guaranteed.
Don’t you wish your real life was more like building with LEGOs? Maybe that’s why we love them so much. We want the master plan, full control, and a glossy picture of how things will end to set our mind at ease.
Well, as David Gibson points out in his book Living Life Backward, “The difference between real life and LEGO construction however is that we are not the ones with the construction blueprint laid out in front of us, God is. We have individual pieces in our hands, and in the Bible, God has given us enough explanation to set us building, but only he has the master plan. We are building our lives and we have an idea of how we want to do it and how we hope it will turn out, but there is so much, about the shape our lives will take that we cannot control.”
Could there be a better call to pray than this truth? Proverbs 20:24 (ESV) says, “A man’s steps are from the Lord; how then can man understand his way?”
So we must learn to embrace this life of faith as David prays in Psalm 143:8, “Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.”
Every one of us on the PrayMore team needs this. We have real lives, real problems, and God continues to guide our steps. While we don’t always understand how the pieces will fit together, we continue to lift our souls to him in prayer and ask that he let us hear of his steadfast love, for in God we trust.
Thank you for praying that for us and I invite you to pause right now and pray this for something in your own life, or for someone you know who is struggling to understand God’s leading.
Thank you for praying like lives depend on it, because they do.
