So Many Reasons to Praise

I love prayer requests—hearts depending on the Lord, for real needs, in real time. But I love prayers of praise just as much—hearts grateful to the Lord, for real blessings, in real time. Last week, as my wife and I sat on our back deck to spend just a few minutes in prayer, I suggested that we just offer prayers of praise—no requests—and dig into the goodness of God.

King David seemed to have that same heart as he penned Psalm 103—not rushing to ask for anything, but simply calling out for praise. He just keeps going and going for twenty-two verses with praise! Here are the first five verses.

Let all that I am praise the Lord;
with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.
Let all that I am praise the Lord;
may I never forget the good things he does for me.
He forgives all my sins
and heals all my diseases.
He redeems me from death
and crowns me with love and tender mercies.
He fills my life with good things.
My youth is renewed like the eagle’s! (Psalm 103:1-5 NLT)

• God, you know the heavy things that are in my life, and I will keep bringing those to you, but right now I want all that I am to praise you, Lord.

• Lord, what can wash away our sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Thank you for forgiving all my sins. I will praise your holy name!
