Hard Work To Make Burdens Light

Written by Nate Ayres | Apr 12, 2026 2:18:44 PM

Jesus says, "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest… For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:28, 30, ESV). Prayer can feel like labor because it is the quiet, honest work of coming—of turning our hearts from worry and control and bringing our real burdens into the presence of God.

It takes effort to slow down, to be still, to speak with God, to trust him. But here's what hit me this week—it is hard work that makes our burdens light. In prayer, we always leave lighter, having transferred burdens that are too heavy for us to carry, giving them to the Lord, who can carry all the burdens of the world. So if prayer feels hard today, don't run from it. Remember that, "casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7, ESV), will unburden your whole day.

Please pray with our team this week:

  • Lord, remind us this week that talking to you in faith is not an extra burden we have to carry, but a work that lifts us up! We give you every care and stressful thing and ask you to carry it for us.
  • As the PrayMore team works hard to make the burdens of others light, please carry their burdens and make their paths straight. Help them as they build big new features, like personal prayer challenges to motivate and teach people daily. But help them also as they fix bugs, write tests and emails, and reach out to help churches and people like me. To you be all the glory, God. Amen.
