I'm struck that we all often wish we were God, so that we could fulfill all our selfish desires and...
God's Power for His Glory
My Bible reading this week included the first chapters in the book of Job. In addition to mourning Job's agonizing experience of plummeting from happiness and success to total devastation, these phrases from Chapter 1 stood out to me:
"And the LORD said to Satan, 'Have you considered my servant Job. . . a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil?'" (Job 1:8, ESV)
"Have you not put a hedge around him and his house and all that he has, on every side?" (Job 1:10a, ESV)
"And the LORD said to Satan, 'Behold, all that he has is in your hand.'" (Job 1:12a, ESV)
Immediately, Sabeans and Chaldeans attack, fire falls from the sky, and a great wind strikes. Here's what strikes me - please pray this for our team this week:
- Lord, you know we will not be sinless until you return, but please keep us upright and obedient, fearing you above all else and turning away from evil.
- Please protect us from Satan and his powers of darkness. He wields incredible power and hates us and our work to grow prayer in your people. If you do not put a hedge around us, he will strike with devastation. So, we cry out in prayer.
- We are humbled by all the blessings we have are from your hand. These are given and preserved by your power, not our own. Please help us use them for your glory alone. Amen.
