Finding Strength for Today and Bright Hope for Tomorrow

We (the PrayMore team) share regular updates and prayer requests with you for two reasons. First, we want to tell you what we’re doing today and what’s coming tomorrow in our world. That’s the update part. Second, we need strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow. That’s the prayer part.

As some of you have probably guessed, I didn’t come up with this phrase, it comes from the last verse of the great hymn, “Great is Thy Faithfulness.” Here’s the whole verse.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine and ten thousand beside.

There are no question marks in that verse. God’s faithfulness will never fail, and Christ’s work on the cross pardons all our sin, so that his peace and dear presence are ours forever. Let’s take hold of the strength and hope that are guaranteed to God’s children by praying.

  • God, you promise, “I will never leave you or forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5, ESV) and this should give us the strength we need for today, if we believe and remember it. Lord, please be the strength the PrayMore team needs as they fix bugs, build Prayer Challenge functionality, call churches with surveys, and create merch and supplies for the upcoming TGCW26 and Sing! Conferences.
  • Lord, you know that strength for today is not enough, we also need “the God of hope [to] fill [the PrayMore team] with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” (Romans 15:13, ESV). Jesus, keep our hope as bright as it should be, as we work to bring your unquenchable hope to the world through prayer! Amen.
