Behind the Build: "I Prayed" button

You might have noticed that we've added a new button next to prayer requests—a small button that says "Pray." I wanted to share briefly what that button is for and why we added it.

Since the very beginning of PrayMore, we have worked hard to create an app that encourages prayer while, at the same time, discouraging the types of unhealthy behaviors that social media apps have promoted. One example is the social media "like" button. When we post something on Instagram, our dopamine receptors fire when people start giving our posts 👍s and ❤️s.

So how is this new "I Prayed" button different from the "Like" button? Sharing a prayer request can feel vulnerable. Knowing others are praying can help you feel cared for and connected. But unlike the "like" button, you can't see which individuals gave you those "likes." You also can't see how many prayers other people's requests have received. We want to encourage the person who requested prayer without adding an unhealthy element of social comparison. After all, prayer is ultimately between you and God.

We also know that knowing others are praying can be so encouraging for missionaries and ministries that send out prayer guides to their supporters. Our desire is to add another element of encouragement by allowing them to see that their supporters are lifting their requests up to the Lord in supplication.

We need your prayers too!

  • Please continue to pray for us as we make user experience decisions that impact people's prayer lives. We want our app to be an encouragement for prayer, not a distraction.

  • Please pray for us as we go to the Sing! Conference next weekend and facilitate the prayer lounge at the conference. May many prayers of thanksgiving, petition, adoration, and confession rise as a pleasant aroma to the Lord!

Thank you for praying like lives depend on it, because they do.

If you are reading this online or in your email and want to use PrayMore to pray with PrayMore (what a concept!!), the app is free, and we'd love for you to be blessed by it. You can even start your own Free Forever group in the app by inviting your friends. Click here to install the app on your phone.
