Avoiding One-Dimensional Prayers

To keep my prayers from becoming one-dimensional asks of God, I love using the simple A.C.T.S. framework. When I forget to pray with those four components, I end up using the ATM framework—treating God more like a machine that I hope will spit out want I want and leave me alone, instead of treating him like the infinite, just, Lord of my life.
If you are using the Praying with PrayMore prayers in your feed, you have seen biblical prayers that we publish each week for Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication. Let’s use this great tool to frame our prayers with the PrayMore team this week.
- Adoration: Heavenly Father, as we come to you in prayer, we start with adoration. We see your marvelous works in summer gardens and billowing storm clouds. You can care completely about every bird that lands on a sunflower, and you love us much more than that. We love remembering how great and awesome you are.
- Confession: Every day we forget how good you are and that we can trust you. We exchange you, our glorious God, our savior and friend, for new gods, even though they are worthless idols. Forgive us and draw our eyes back to you, we pray. We want to be devoted to you.
- Thanksgiving: Thank you, Lord, for your many blessings! I join the PrayMore team in thanking you for 10,000 total users—and the thousands beyond that, who received help, strength, and blessing from you because people prayed like their lives depended on it.
- Supplication: We ask that you touch many more lives in the weeks to come! Transfer souls from the dominion of darkness to your glorious light! Help believers believe your words so deeply that they can survive times of drought. Bind up our wounds, restore our relationships, and lift our heads so we can sing for joy to Jesus! Amen.
Thank you for praying like lives depend on it, because they do.
